The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
