Los Angeles Battles Unprecedented High Temperatures Just Days After Major Winter Storm.
After enduring significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, LA is now grappling with abnormally high temperatures for this time of year.
All-Time High Heat
On Friday midday, the temperature soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Los Angeles, per data from weather officials. This easily surpasses the previous daily record for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was recorded in the previous year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were labeled on NWS graphics for the region.
Safety Alerts
The weather service issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their advice included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Dramatic Reversal
This dramatic increase in mercury follows closely after a intense winter storm that pummeled the state last week. That storm brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to mountainous regions, triggering flash flood warnings for many residents.

The outlook suggests some relief will arrive. The heat were forecast to decrease to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by Friday night.
Several cities that reached 90°F featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to see the upper eighties.
For the weekend, downtown LA can see readings in the 80s, with cooler weather on tap for the following week.
