Individual That Touched Ariana Grande at Red Carpet Event Prohibited from Singapore
An Australian man who vaulted past a barrier and touched Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was given a sentence to more than a week in detention for causing a public disturbance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority informed local media.
He forced his way beyond security and charged at the actress and singer, who was present at the regional launch for the musical adaptation on the thirteenth of November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
The individual has a record of interrupting performances and high-profile gatherings, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The occurrence provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of re-traumatising Grande.
The singer has spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her performance in the UK city in May 2017 took the lives of 22 people and injured hundreds.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had attempted to intrude on the movie's debut twice, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to jump the barricades. Protection personnel stopped him and pinned him down.
Wen later posted recordings expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Police arrested him the following day and accused him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge Christopher Goh was cited by media reports as remarking that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was incorrect to think he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not spoken about the situation.
Erivo mentioned the event to NBC, saying that she "simply desired to make sure my friend was safe."
"I think he didn't intend us injury, but you never know with those things, and I wanted to confirm that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she commented.
