Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
